Approximately 10% of the population is labeled as being allergic to penicillin.
Less than 5% of these individuals are actually allergic. Antibiotics in the penicillin family are among the safest and effective antibiotics. The label of penicillin allergy often results in the use of other antibiotics that increase the risk for antimicrobial resistance and adverse events.
Penicillin allergy testing is indicated in patients labeled as allergic to penicillin. We offer this service. The procedure involves skin testing with penicillin. If skin tests are negative, oral amoxicillin is given followed by observation for 1-2 hours.

To make an appointment for this testing, indicate to the scheduler you specifically want penicillin testing. These appointments are scheduled the 3rd week of every month. Allow 2-3 hours for the appointment.
